Tuesday - Science
Science – Classification of vertebrates
• Carl Linnaeus (1707–1778) was a Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist. He laid the foundations for traditional classification and binomial naming systems.
For the second part of your Science lesson today, choose a favourite animal or plant then research its binomial name and how it is classified according to the ranking system Linnaeus developed: kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus and species. Key questions to consider - does your animal or plant have all the ranks or does it have different ranks? In your books, we want to see an example like the one below:
Human Binomial name - Homo sapiens (‘wise man’ in Latin) Kingdom – animal; Phylum – vertebrate; Class – mammal; Order – primate; Family – hominid; Genus – homo; Species – sapiens. |
Wednesday - Geography and Spanish
Geography - Explore the world Please open the resource for today's lesson (link below)
Spanish - Desayuno En El Cafe (At the Café) – Making a meal out of it! For Spanish this afternoon, log in to Language Angels using your personal log-in that has been emailed home to you (emailed to your parents by Mrs Smith on Friday 08.01.2021). Once on there, you will see the Desayuno En El Café games area. For this week, as an introduction to the topic, we would like to you begin to familiarise yourself with the spelling and pronunciation of the terms by playing the Picture Memory game. When you have played the game a few times and are familiar with the terms, select some of your favourite foods that are featured and draw your perfect meal in your learning from home book. Under each food item, write both the Spanish and English translation. Don’t forget to write the date, title (Making a meal out of it!) and present your work in a ‘Take Care’ way. |
