Our new mini topic is "Move it". This project teaches children the importance of sleep, exercise and a balanced diet. The children have been sorting out the healthy/unhealthy items that are needed in their lunch boxes, which food is a fruit or vegetable, painting a healthy dinner plate and practicing their throwing, catching, kicking and bat and ball skills outside. They also made chocolate crispie cakes!

A quick thank you to everyone who joined us for our Sports Day! Everyone did really well and we all enjoyed it.

It has been a pirate sort of week! The children have been drawing their own treasure maps, making telescopes and role playing on our pirate ship outside. They followed Mrs Cruse's map to find the treasure outside which involved, balancing on the stepping stones over the lava, climbing the bridges, jumping in hoops, "walking the plank" balance beams and crawling into the tent.

WC 12 June 2023

This week we have been learning about the different animals that can be found at the beach in rock pools such as crabs, starfish, mussels and barnacles. We have been making crabs and jellyfish out of dough, using the various tweezers to pick up starfish and fish to add to the bucket and trying to sink the boats in the water tray by adding stones and shells.

WC 5 June 2023

Our new theme is "On the beach." This project teaches children about the plants and animals that live at the seaside. It also explores holidays in the past and the importance of keeping safe in the sun. This week the children have been selling cakes and pizza in our beach cafe role play, using the till and counting the money. We continue to practice writing our own name using our fingers in the sand and catching/identifying the different sea animals in the water tray.

WC 15 May

This week we are learning about the mini beast world - caterpillars, beetles, worms, spiders, ladybirds, butterflies galore. They have been practicing their cutting skills by cutting outlines of worms and straws, wool and ribbons to make webs for the spiders. On the craft table they made symmetrical butterfly paintings as well as printing with cotton reels to make their own caterpillars. The children have particularly enjoyed watching the time lapse films of a spider spinning a web, a caterpillar turning into a butterfly and the ladybird lifecycle. More to come next week! They have been threading long caterpillars, making pipe-cleaner spiders and counting the spots on our ladybird dominoes.

WC 8 May 2023

Our " Squiggle while you Wiggle" progresses. The children use their flipper-flappers (squares of material) to do the "up-up-up" "down-down-down" and "All Around the World" (clockwise/anticlockwise circles) movements with gusto! Ask them to show you! This then moves to the large paper and with a crayon in each hand the children repeat those phrases and movements drawing lines up and down and around. We have been naming simple shapes and talking about sides and corners whilst the children made pictures and patterns with the foam shapes and tap-tap shapes. Plus the children have been showing us how well they know the "Going on a Bear Hunt" story as they use the small world toys to re-enact and say the phrases they know.

WC 1 May 2023

This week we have been learning about Africa. We noticed the colours and patterns on clothing and copied and made up our own patterns of swirls and lines using fine brushes in the paint and and our "Peter Pointer" finger in the glitter. In the small world we had animals that live in the plains including elephants, zebras and lions. We also had a go at blow painting and mixing! Then on Friday it was a day of celebration for the King's coronation. There were flags, crowns, dressing up, food and dance.

WC 24 April 2023

This week we continue our Animal Safari theme learning that some animals have scales, some feathers and others fur. We also learnt that there are animals that are tall, long, small and large. We continue to practice using our fine motor skills doing our own zips on our coats, doing buttons when getting dressed/undressed for P.E, using the tweezers to pick up the spiders and put on the web or the pipettes, basters and spoons to fill up the small bottles of water. The children are doing really well at looking for the letters of their name during self registration and also for their name card they use to copy their names. Outside the children have particularly enjoyed using the scarves and ribbons using large movements to make up our their own dance moves to the music. New for this term, on a Friday morning the children take part in sessions with Gordon Fearn our P.E sports coach.

WC 17 April 2023

Welcome back after the Easter break. Our theme this week is "Animal Safari." This teaches children about the animals that live around the world, how to look after them and the importance of caring for our local and global environments. This week we have been making homes for the wild animals in the small world, reading our Talk4writing book Dear Zoo and learning about the animals that live in the sea. As the weather has turned nice we are spending more time in our outside area. The children made an obstacle course out of the stepping stones, balance beams and hoops. They also devised their own ramp maze to see which of the trucks went faster and further. The crates were made into beds with cushions to relax on and books to read.  Outside our sunflower seeds have just started to come up, so we are hoping that with the sunny weather they will grow really quickly.
