WC 20 March 2023

This week we have been mixing colours, finger painting daffodils, making nests, flowers and chicks out of the playdough and learning ball skills in P.E

WC 13 March 2023

This week we have been looking out for the signs of Spring and noticing the different types of weather that this can bring. We experienced snow showers, wind, rain and sunshine all in a week. The children are currently enjoying the game "I spy with  my little eye someone whose name begins with the letter sound...." Plus, we created our own "5 little speckled frogs" song and story in the small world and "5 little ducks when swimming one day" outside, catching them in our nets.

WC 6 March 2023

This week we have been learning that animal babies are known by different names than the adult animals. We are practicing finding our own name cards by recognising the first few letters and also trying to copy our names. Our home corner became a garden centre and we continuing subitising (recognising without counting) 1,2 and 3 objects. However, the most exciting things was........SNOW!!

WC 27 February 2023

We continue with our theme with this week looking at what a plant needs to grow and that seeds come in different shapes and sizes. We have spread some seeds in our tyres outside, planted some squash seeds and wonder if we will grow our own beanstalk the same as Jack and Jasper in the books that we have read this week! Then we had a great time using our hands and tools making and eating our own bread.

Our new theme is Ready, Steady, Grow! This project teaches children about food and farming and explores themes, including where food comes from, what plants and animals need to grow and survive and what constitutes a healthy lifestyle.  This week we have been talking about the different shops we visit, printing with fruit and veg, turned the home corner into a farm shop, planted cress seeds inside to watch it grow and planted sunflowers outside in the trough.

WC 6 February 2023

This week we have been looking back at what we have learnt during our Long Ago theme. The children have been telling us what they can do now that they couldn't do when they were a baby and making links between new and old versions of a telephone, car, aeroplane and more. They have enjoyed sharing their teddies with their friends, reading them stories and making soup in the home corner. We continued to use different tools such as a pipette for colour mixing and scissors and tweezers for cutting spaghetti. Cornflour gloop was also a hit for squeezing and pushing with our funky fingers.

WC 30 January 2023

This week we have continued to use lots of different tool including pipettes, funnels, jugs for making potions, hammers to make shape pictures and glue spreaders to make cards using collage materials. We have also been talking about the names the chidren use for their Grandparents as well as sharing our family photos with each other.

WC 23 January 2023

This week we have been experimenting making marks in different textures such as puffy paint, the dough (using cotton reels, corks, forks, sticklebricks and a welly boot!) and shaving foam as well as looking after the baby in the home corner and in the bath. We have been painting with forks, toothbrushes, sticks and cotton buds on large paper.

W/C 16 January 2023

This week we have been learning about long ago. This project teaches children about how they have grown and changed since they were babies and how life in the past was different from today. We had fun trying to guess who the baby was from our baby pictures gallery, played hook-a-duck counting the ducks in our nets, sorted the socks out to see if we had 1 or 2 socks, used different tools (potato masher, garlic press, forks) to make marks in the dough and used the tweezers to put Incy Wincy spider back on his web.

W/C 9 January 2023

Happy New Year! This week we are learning all about traditional nursery rhymes and fairy tales especially Twinkle, Twinkle (our Talk4 writing) and The Gingerbread Man. We experimented with different materials to see how we could stop HUmpty Dumpty from cracking as he fell off the wall. We are also continuing with our new dough disco routine and "Squiggle While You Wiggle" with our "flipper-flappers" doing the "Up, up, up" movement. Ask your child all about it!
