LO: Making predictions about a story from details stated or implied.

Below, we have included in the resources folder, a selection of front covers from different versions of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe book. Take a look at these and write statements answering the following questions:

• What do you already know about the story? I know that…
• What do you think the book about? The book is about…because…
• What is the significance of the wardrobe? The wardrobe is significant because…
• Who do you think the main characters are? I think the main characters are…
• What time era do you think the story is set in? I think that the story is set in…because
• How do you think the children feel based on their images/illustrations and what it says about them in the synopsis (living away from home with a stranger)?
• What does the front cover tell you about the setting of the story? I think the story is set in…because…

If you have time in your English lesson, you might want to create your own front cover for The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Remember to include the title and the author.

 

Tuesday 12^th January

LO: Reading about the author.

Using the information factsheet provided, create a biography poster or a fact file on C.S. Lewis. Can you see why reading about his life will give you an insight and understanding into why he wrote the Narnia Chronicles, and his inspiration for the books? Be sure to include the W’s. Who he is, where he was born, what his inspiration for the books were etc. There is a template for a fact file in the resources section below or you may choose to create your own format in your learning from home book.

 

Wednesday 13^th January

LO: Writing and drafting in narratives, describing settings, characters and atmosphere.

Imagine you have found your own wardrobe.

• Where would it lead?
• Who would you meet?
• What would happen?
• How would you return?
• What would you tell people?

Write a story describing your own journey through the wardrobe. Click on today’s resource sheet for your writing criteria and further instructions.

 

Thursday 14^th January

LO: Drawing on research to inform my writing.

Today, in preparation for our lesson tomorrow, you will need to conduct some research using books or sources from your home or using the internet if you have access. You will need to find out as much as you can about an animal who lives in a cold habitat. Some examples to choose from (although you may pick your own!) are below:

• Snowy owl
• Polar bear
• Caribou
• Pika
• Elk
• Arctic fox
• Muskox
• Walrus
• Beluga whales
• Orca

Make sure when you include your animal name, you also include the Latin translation and the species sub-group. You may even have noticed on BBC iPlayer and Netflix that Our Planet and Frozen Planet is available to watch (check with an adult first!). Friday 15^th January

LO: Using research to create a non-chronological report.

Using your information from yesterday, complete the non-chronological report about your chosen animal. A template is available below in the resources folder. You do not have to use this, you may choose your own subtitles and headings, and set out your report as you choose to. Be sure you include a picture or illustration of your animal.
