We use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds to teach phonics and early reading.

At St. Peter's, we believe that reading is the key to unlocking learning. Our aim is to foster a lifelong love of books, language, and storytelling in every child. We provide a rich and varied reading curriculum that helps pupils become fluent, confident readers who enjoy reading for pleasure and purpose.
Phonics First
In the Early Years and Key Stage 1, we use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds. This is a systematic, synthetic phonics programme to build strong foundations in decoding and word recognition.
Developing Fluency and Comprehension
As children progress, we develop reading skills by focusing on decoding, prosody and comprehension. This enables the children to rehearse the text regularly and build up their fluency and understanding of the story or book.
Reading for Pleasure
We promote a love of reading through regular storytime, reading challenges, and access to a wide range of high-quality books.
Daily phonics sessions in EYFS and KS1
Small group reading three times a week
