Welcome to our class page! My name is Miss Walton and I am fortunate enough to be teaching Year 6 again this year! This will be my fourth consecutive year teaching Year 6…it's a wonderful year to teach! Please see the curriculum information sub-page to see what we are getting up to each term.
Useful Information
- I will be teaching the class full-time. During my PPA afternoon (currently a Monday), the children will be taught Spanish and Music by Mrs Smith and ACE sports coaches who deliver part of our PE.
- Every week, there will be a homework e-newsletter to parents/guardians uploaded to the class page, which will let you know what we have been up to that week. It will also detail any homework to complete. Spelling words to be learned for the following week will also be featured. This will be uploaded each Friday morning.
- During SATs preparation, children will have SATs specific homework with a timetable in the front. This information will be communicated via a SATs meeting in February 2026.
- PE kits should be brought in appropriate for the weather. PE will take place on both a Monday afternoon and a Friday. On Mondays, children should come in wearing uniform and we will get changed just before lunch. On a Friday, children may come in and stay in their PE kits, as we have a morning lesson.
- A clean, fresh water bottle is to be brought into school every day and kept at the side of the classroom. Children will have plenty of opportunities to have a drink throughout the day.
- Please name all clothing and equipment. Children have had a name label placed onto their work diaries.
- Work diaries - These will be used in school by the children as well as at home, so they will need bringing in each day. The children will write their weekly spellings in these and also keep a log of any personal reading in there, as well as what books they have read in a book list. Children are welcome to bring in their own books to read from home, however we do have a large and varied selection in our school library. I also have a wide variety of books in my classroom, that the children can borrow. I also ensure that we have a 15 minute story time every day before break - Year 6 is never too old for a good old story!
- Handwriting and spelling will take place every day ensuring these skills are being taught, practiced and applied.
- Forms - It is worth keeping in mind that if you are able to fill in forms online for the office, or email these, rather than children bringing in printed versions, this is much quicker.
- Communication - If you have any queries, please feel free to use parentcorrespondence@st-peters.notts.sch.uk to contact the office, who will forward your queries on to me. I will also be present on the playground after school. If your query is urgent and requires an immediate response, please call the school office as the first point of contact on 01949 20226.
- Equipment – There is no need to bring in a pencil case. These can build up with unnecessary equipment and be a distraction! I will ensure that each child has access to a pencil, ruler, rubber, sharpener and the necessary pens required for each lesson. Personal colouring pens or pencils can be kept in bags until needed in a lesson.
- Dave's Adventures - My year 6s are very fond of our donkey called Dave, from one of our Whitby trips! Each child will have the chance to take care of Dave for the weekend, detailing his adventures in our 'Dave's Adventures' scrapbook! They can take a look at last year’s scrapbook to see how this works.
