I would like to begin by saying a very warm welcome to Oak class.
This year is already looking to be a very exciting and busy one, and I am very excited to be continuing the journey with all the children and parents.
This year marks an exciting new chapter in your child’s learning journey. In Year 1, we will continue building on the strong foundations laid in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), supporting your child as they transition into more structured learning while still embracing the creativity, curiosity, and joy that drive early education. Our aim is to help every child “Become the Best They Can Be.” We will encourage independence, not only in their learning, but also in how they care for themselves and interact with others. Throughout the year, your child will develop key skills in reading, writing, and maths, while also growing in confidence, resilience, and a love of learning. We will also continue to guide children in how to take care of themselves, each other, their work, and the world around them. These values will be embedded in everything we do, from classroom routines to topic explorations, helping to build responsible, thoughtful learners and “take care” members of our school community.
Year 2 will be a year full of discovery, growth, and deep learning. This year, we will continue our journey to help every child become the “Best They Can Be.” We’ll be building on the strong foundations developed in previous years and encouraging your child to take greater ownership of their learning, with growing confidence and independence. In writing, we will focus on developing creativity, structure, and a wider vocabulary, helping children to express their ideas clearly and confidently. In maths, we will deepen their understanding of key concepts, encouraging reasoning, problem-solving, and fluency with numbers. Our topic work will take us deeper into exciting areas across the curriculum, exploring themes in science, history, geography, art, and more. We aim to spark curiosity and inspire children to ask thoughtful questions, make connections, and enjoy the process of learning.
There is a key focus this year on instilling one of life’s greatest skills: curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. We hope that by the end of Key Stage 1, your child will become:
We also hope to help each child begin to discover who they want to become, by providing a wide scope of opportunities that inspire imagination, resilience, and ambition.
