Pupil Parliament at East Bridgford St Peter's
Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) states that children and young people should have a voice in decisions that impact their lives.
Our Pupil Parliament provides a platform for pupils to express their views.
Our Class Representatives, Party Leaders and Take Care Leaders play a vital role in increasing student involvement, while also teaching them about democracy, citizenship (both local and global), and accountability.
Pupil Parliament provides children at our school with a platform to speak and ensure their voices are heard. It is a democratically elected group of pupils who represent their peers, empowering them to become responsible for their own education and contribute positively to the school's environment and ethos. We promote independence and provide leadership opportunities, helping them develop crucial skills such as leadership, communication, and organisation. Our children are incredibly willing to take on these roles and play their part.
Regular meetings are held, supported by Miss Walton and Mrs Gibbens. The agenda for each meeting varies, depending on any particular issues that school may be facing or topics that the children are interested in. We support children in facilitating charity events, hosting assemblies, upholding our Take Care ethos and much more. The Prime Minister and their deputies help to chair the meetings, taking down minutes that are shared with the wider school community.
Pupil Parliament is also accessible for all children, with a display and suggestion box in school.
